When will I be able to get a vaccine?
Given the positive results of both vaccines, experts believe nationwide vaccination will probably start in April-May 2021. The CDC has already mentioned a three-phase vaccination campaign projected to commence after the vaccines received emergency authorization from the FDA and their distribution within the United States is approved by the CDC’s advisory committee.
According to the CDC, every state and jurisdiction will have its own vaccination plan, but the first ones to receive the vaccine will be the approximately 20 million healthcare workers. Since the pandemic started, more than 215,000 doctors, nurses, and other medical workers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the United States.
How long will the vaccine protect me against COVID-19?
Unfortunately, it’s still too early for researchers to draw a final conclusion. “We do not know at this point what the durability of protection will be, and that’s the reason why we have long-term follow-ups,” Dr. Fauci said earlier this week. This means participants in the studies are still monitored with respect to how their levels of coronavirus antibodies and other cells respond. Only time can tell. We can only hope for the best, considering the effectiveness and speed with which such vaccines have been developed after less than a year since the coronavirus pandemic has started.
