Over the past 20 years, Elon Musk welcomed 14 children. The Tesla founder first became a father in 2002, when his ex-wife and Canadian author Justine Wilson welcomed their son Nevada Alexander, who tragically passed away at 10 weeks old.
The two of them went on to have five more children: twins Vivian and Griffin, and triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian. After divorcing Wilson in 2008 after seven eventful years of marriage, Musk married and rapidly divorced actress Talulah Riley not once, but twice, even if they’ve never had any children together.
Moreover, in 2020, two years after Musk and singer Grimes were seen in public, the two announced they welcomed their first child, X Æ A-12. The former couple have two more children, a girl, Exa Dark Sideræl, and a boy, Techno Mechanicus.
A couple of weeks before the arrival of their second child, the tech CEO secretly fathered twins, Strider and Azure, with Shivon Zilis, an executive at one of his companies, Neuralink. Then, in February 2024, the pair welcomed their daughter Arcadia.
Later in the year, according to a source from PEOPLE, Musk and Grimes were searching for a home in Bel Air where they could live with all their children and their mothers. During an interview taken in May 2023 with The Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council, Musk opened the topic of his children’s futures.
He shared that he has zero plans to “instantly” give his children shares of his companies, especially “if they have no interest or inclination to manage” his self-built empire.
In February 2025, author Ashley St. Clair also revealed that she and Musk had welcomed a child. Then, Zilis announced that she and Musk had secretly welcomed baby no. 4, son Seldon Lycurgus, even if the exact date is still unclear.
Nevada Alexander
Musk welcomed his son, Nevada Alexander, with his first wife, Justine Wilson, back in 2002. Unfortunately, at only 10 weeks old, he passed away from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). “Nevada went down for a nap, and we placed him on his back as always, and simply stopped breathing,” Wilson wrote in a 2010 essay. “By the time the paramedics resuscitated him, he had been deprived of oxygen for so long that he was brain dead.”
Vivian Jenna Wilson and Griffin
In another Marie Claire essay, Wilson went on to share more of the couple’s journey to expand their family further. “I buried my feelings, trying to cope with Nevada’s death by making my first visit to an IVF clinic only two months later.
Elon and I planned to get pregnant one more time, as soon as possible. Within the next five years, I gave birth to twins, then to triplets.” In April 2022, Musk signed a petition to the court to legally change her name to Vivian Jenna Wilson (the maiden name of her mother, Justine Wilson) and to change her gender to female.
In court documents, Vivian said she no longer wishes “to be related to my biological father in any kind of way, shape or form.” The petition was ultimately granted in June of the same year.
Kai, Saxon, and Damian
Wilson also gave birth to triplet boys, which the couple named Kai, Saxon, and Damian back in 2006, only two years after having twins. She also revealed in a recent 2017 TED Talk that they were made via IVF, but she and Musk didn’t get to discuss the children themselves publicly.
In another 2023 biography on the tech mogul, called “Elon Musk,” author Walter Isaacson wrote about Damian, who he said became vegetarian at only 8 to “decrease his carbon footprint.” Isaacson also mentioned that Damian is a classical music genius, who also excels in maths and physics. Musk’s mom, Maye, told her son, “Damian might be brighter than you.”
X Æ A-12
Grimes and Musk welcomed their first baby on May 4, 2020, after the singer announced she is pregnant with a picture of her baby bump back in January 2020. Their son, X Æ A-12, whose name was later changed to X Æ A-Xii, was given after the CIA’s Lockheed A-12 reconnaissance plane.
Even if he is nicknamed “X,” Grimes went on to explain his pronunciation in her Instagram comment section. “It’s only X, like the letter X,” as she explained. “Then A.I.” she added. “Just as you say the letter A, then I.”
However, Musk explained the pronunciation quite differently, saying on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast that “X” is pronounced like the letter, while the Æ is spelled like “ash.” Even if proudly stating that “A-12 was his very first contribution,” he also said it was Grimes who “came up with the name.” She even gave a thorough description of the meaning behind it on her X page.
Strider and Azure
Musk secretly welcomed twins, Strider and Azure, with Shivon Zilis back in November 2021, according to court documents. The twins were born and reside in Austin, Texas. Their birth came just a few weeks before he and Grimes welcomed a baby girl via a surrogate.
The papers also show that in April 2022, Musk and Zilis asked a Texan county court to modify their babies’ names. The purpose was to have “their father’s last name and have their mother’s last name as part of their middle name.” The parents both revealed the babies’ names and sexes back in September 2023, when they were already 16 months old.
Exa Dark Sideræl
A year later, Grimes revealed that she also welcomed a baby girl via surrogate in December 2021, only three months after the couple’s public breakup. Named Exa Dark Sideræl, the singer-songwriter went on to explain that her name has a double meaning.
Exa also refers to a supercomputing term, exaFLOPS, as Dark represents “the unknown.” She also explained to the outlet, “People fear it when in reality, it’s the absence of photons. Dark matter is a wonderful mystery of our universe.”
The third part of Y’s full name is pronounced “sigh-deer-ee-el.” Grimes described it as a “more elven” spelling of sedereal, which she defines as “the true time of the universe, star time, deep space-time, not our earth time.”
Techno Mechanicus
The couple also welcomed a second son in secret, named Techno Mechanicus, who goes by “Tau.” His mother candidly opened up about her son, repeating how amazing he is and how he has eyes that can see very deeply into your soul. She even went on to compare him with a little Spock. Following Isaacson’s biography on Musk, Grimes posted on X that she wants to keep further details about her youngest child private.
Arcadia
In June last year, Musk confirmed the arrival of his third child with Zilis. They now have a daughter, Arcadia, who was born on February 28, 2024.
Seldon Lycurgus
Zilis declared on X in February 2025 that she and Musk recently welcomed their fourth child, son Seldon Lycurgus. But she did not reveal her baby boy’s birthdate. After discussing, they decided to publicly announce the birth of their son Seldon Lycurgus. They also went on to explain how he is built like a juggernaut, with a solid heart of gold, and how much they love him.
Elon Musk and Ashley St. Clair’s baby
In February 2025, St. Clair posted an announcement to X, stating that she and Musk welcomed a child together in September 2024. “Five months ago, I welcomed a baby into the world. Elon Musk is the father.
I haven’t previously disclosed this information to protect our child’s privacy and safety, but in the most recent days it has become quite clear that tabloid media wants me to do so, no matter how much harm it might cause him.” she explained.
Takeaway
So, as it turns out, Elon Musk isn’t just filling up his time with revolutionizing space travel, electric cars, and I. He also seems to be on a personal mission to overpopulate Mars himself. With a minimum of 10 children, Musk’s approach to fatherhood is quite unconventional, exactly like his business ventures.
From names that sound like our WiFi password to parenting philosophies that make Montessori look nothing less than old-fashioned, Musk’s offspring are growing up in a world their daddy plans to make as futuristic as possible. In fact, soon enough, even sci-fi writers will struggle to keep up.
To begin with, their names are just as cryptic as Tesla’s self-driving software. Let’s take X Æ A-12: Does this name come out from a secret military project? Yes. Would you think it’s a child? Well, no. But what do we know?
After all, who needs playground-friendly names, when you can simply have a moniker that breaks language itself? Then, there’s the entire “no traditional school” thing. Musk’s children attend Ad Astra, a private, extremely experimental school that he made (of course). As it turns out, the good old-school education wasn’t enough.
But let’s not ignore Musk’s stance on overpopulation. Even if most of us worry about affording daycare for one kid, Musk is more than determined to solve the “declining birth rate crisis” by himself, if possible. The only question left is if any of his children will actually take his empire, or will they rebel and start driving gas-guzzling SUVs out of spite?
