5. Monopoly
Did you know that one of the main reasons Monopoly was invented was because people wanted to teach others the basics of fundamental economics? The first edition was created by Elizabeth Magie, and it was called “The Landlord’s Game.” But it wasn’t seen with very good eyes, and soon after, another man named Charles Darrow “stole” the idea and tried to play it with one of his neighbors. After that, he implemented some rules and started marketing it, and the game became so popular that plenty of copies were sold around the whole state of Illinois.
Unfortunately, because Parker Brothers never recognized Elizabeth Magie as the first inventor of the game, Charles Darrow became the first board game millionaire, and even today Hasbro credits him as the only creator.
