3. Fort Drum, Okeechobee County

There are a lot of haunted places, but did you know that in the Sunshine State, there are plenty of ghost towns? There is a deserted settlement called Fort Drum just west of the Florida Turnpike that most people believe is a place visited by ghosts and spirits. This region was home to a fort during the Second Seminole War, and following the Civil War, people who were looking for work in the cattle industry migrated here.

All that remains today is the original Fort Drum school and a cemetery containing the remains of many of the town’s early residents (now an antiques and collectibles shop). As you go through Central Florida, you can stop at the cemetery and the store.

But why do they say it’s haunted? Did something bad happen to the villagers? Rumors have it that while they were near this place, they heard a lot of weird sounds, like someone screaming. Spooky! I wouldn’t dare put my foot on that place during the night!
