A few minutes after 2:00 p.m., Kennedy’s body would be taken from Parkland Hospital to Love Field where this image was taken. It shows the President’s casket being loaded through the rear door into the passenger compartment of Air Force One by several Secret Service agents and military personnel.
The bronze, silk-lined casket would lay at the rear of the plane as Lyndon B. Johnson would be sworn in as U.S. President, with former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy standing at his side still dressed in her blood-soaked clothes.
